A mountain near the sea

2

If ever you are in very southern California and find yourself looking for an oasis or retreat from the long roads you’re traveling, search no further than Leonard’s Salvation Mountain.
The Mountain, still in the making, lies at the entrance to Slab City and only a few short miles from The Salton Sea. Leonard, creator and engineer of Salvation will most happily greet you as you walk up the dirt path leading from the road to his door. With smiles and a handshake he’ll take you on a tour you’ll never forget. Afterwards, he’ll point you up a “Yellow Brick Road” which takes you to the top of his Mountain where you can look out to the north and to a grand view of Slab City. As you leave, don’t be surprised if he hands you a couple postcards and shares with you a favorite scripture. I Loved meeting and talking with him and wish I could’ve spent more time there, but as we talked others were coming in.

After our visit with Leonard, we headed back to The Salton Sea. I’d love to share more of this amazing place with you all right now but since I shot mostly film and polaroids you’ll have to wait until I get home and get it all scanned,,, sorry! It was pretty freakin’ cool though, I’ll tell you that!

  1. These are exquisite. Wonderful story behind it, and that mountain of faith looks very interesting. An oasis full of color and love. I think the feeling you have when you are actually there is utterly emotional.
And I can bet it was pretty cool to see that place and shoot it both digital and film. Looking forward to polaroids and scans. :D
